I saw a story on the ABC news last night on a company that actually rents pets for a day. It was something like $40 per day for the rental and I think that they have weekend rates also. The niche was that they cater to “people on the go” who do not have time for a pet but would like to spend some time with an animal of choice. There were naturally people who both liked and disliked the idea and gave cases for each side. Some say it is bad for the animal to be shuffled around with different people preventing them from forming the bond that they desire with a particular human. Some say that it benefits the human in many ways which I think it can. This may be true but at what cost to the animal? After watching the Wesminster Dog Show last night and seeing all of the different types of dogs that were there, I think one benefit of the “rent-a-pet” could be for people to see if they like a particular breed before they buy a dog. This could ultimately save a dog and an owner much undue stress in finding out later that they are not compatable. I’m not sure what I think of this particular business yet, but I will be keeping an eye on it to see how it develops! What do you think?
