Happy Father’s day to all of those fathers out there (priests included)! How about breakfast in bed today? How about Fench toast, scrambled eggs, hashbrowns, bacon, sausage, orange juice, and a nice cup of coffee? I awoke today to the sound of banging pans, running water, and the chopping of potatos for the hash browns … but … wait a minute. I’m the only one here! Butch was not in bed so he must have got up earlier to go lay in the sun coming through the window. After getting up, getting dressed I walked into the den and there was Butch in his favorite spot laying in the sun. He looked at me and said “what, I’m just laying here!” As it turns out the banging pan was Butch hitting the bell on the doorknob to go outside, the running water was him getting a drink, and the chopping of potatos for the hash browns? Well, it was his leg hitting the floor while he was scratching himself. So much for breakfast in bed for Father’s day! Butch wanted to buy me something but I changed the passwords on the computer because of his On-Line shopping while I am at work. Ever since the fire hydrant showed up one day, I took away his credit card and changed the password on the computer!
I might not be a father yet but I do have a great father. At 84 years old he is still spry, gets around on his own, and is doing great after his recent aneurysm surgery in early May. He is really the reason that I have Butch and I can’t thank him enough. He has always been there for us all and has always done the best he could. A self employed barber for nearly 50 years, he was smart and had invested in real estate many years ago. Being handy with tools he was able to fix them up himself and taught me a thing or two along the way. He is the main reason I can fix things around my own house now! He has been a great Dad, a great friend, and a great role model. He is not perfect as no one is, but he has always given his all for his wife, kids, and family. Happy father’s day Dad!
This is a shot of Dad (Eugene Marginean) and Butch’s Mom Buttons in Sept. 2003.
This is an unbelievable shot of Dad taken when he was a teenager in the summer of 1941. This was the summer BEFORE Pearl Harbor! Click on the picture to get a larger view. I had to repair a bad crease in the picture so Dad’s nose is out of joint a bit and I added the names and date for Dad. He is the one all the way on the right. This, I’m told was a road trip to a wedding. One of the guys sister was getting married that day. They look like gangsters … look at that car! “Those were the days!”
