My Buddy Butch – The “Superhero?”

It all started about four years ago. A sweet little puppy came into the world and became my friend. Little did I know then of the superpowers that lurked behind that single blue eye, or should I say that tiny little bladder of titanium! The potty training, the late night outside walks to go pee, the sunny strolls past the flower pot stopping to add his personal signature…

Flower potAs you can plainly see, this whiskey barrel planter has … rather … had, two steel straps to hold the wood in place. When I put this thing in six years ago, I painted it with two coats of green for the wood and two coats of brown rust preventative paint on the steel straps. Six years is a long time but just for perspective, the other barrel in the front yard has been there for 15 years and the straps are still in fine shape! My little superhero, who I affectionately call “The Urinator,” has managed to pee right through the paint and the steel over the last four years and has literally eroded the entire steel band. I cannot even repair it as it is disintegrating in my hands. Oh, what to do!?! I had to laugh at this. It’s not really a surprise given the chemical composition of dog urine, but here is another example of things dogs do that can unexpectedly affect your surroundings.

Butch has now started to work on the basketball pole. With his superhero precision accuracy and the patience of Job he continues to add his signature at the base of the pole every time he makes his rounds. I’m taking bets on the date that I will open the garage door in the morning and find the basketball pole laying across the driveway!
