RUFUS THE 2009 CANINE AMBASSADOR FOR THE NATIONAL DOG SHOW
Rufus - "The King"
Barbara Bishop was kind enough to join us this week and tell us what Rufus has been up to in his retirement years from the show circuit. Rufus was the 2005 National Dog Show Winner and the 2006 Westminster winner just a few months later. He is the only dog to accomplish this feat! Listen in as Barb talks about the numerous awards and  accomplishments that Rufus has under his coller! Rufus has been doing therapy work and visits retirement homes, children’s hospitals, and is slated for a visit to the Ronald McDonald house with the Westminster’s “Angel on a Leash Foundation” headed up by David Frei, one of the co-hosts for the TV broadcast of the National Dog Show. Barb and Rufus are also members of numerous organizations and charities benefitting canines, the Bull Terrier breed and the humans they love!

In honor of Rufus this week Barb and I talked about the Breed Rescue for the Bull Terrier and how to go about adopting one. The Bull Terrier Rescue Network is run by the Bull Terrier Club of America and all prospective placements are checked out completely! We discussed the needs of the breed and unfortunate mistake some people make by adopting this breed because of the “look” rather than really reaserching the breed and knowing how to be a responsible owner and properly care for this loving, energetic, family oriented companion. These dogs NEED to be with their humans and demand to be part of the family. Please don’t adopt this breed as a “Fashion Statement!”
