This week – Jennifer Shryock of Dogs & Storks joins us to talk about the importance of bringing a new baby into the home with a dog. This is the first national program that prepares families with dogs for a new life with a baby. Jeff is a big supporter of this program because it can prevent many unpleasant situations including surrendering a dog to already overcrowded rescue shelters! Also Joplin Mo. Human Society has has one of the toughest times an organization like this can possibly have. We have been following the plight of Joplin since the tornado and storms in May and now Jeff talks with Karen Aquino the executive director of the Jopline Humane Society to see what is currently happening there as well as some of the amazing stories that have happened. Hour 2 – Did you know that many of our states are starting to name official state Dogs and Cats? Well, Gina DiNardo of the AKC stops by to tell us all about it. Gina is always fun to talk to and she lets us in on the latest states to join the fray. There is a WILD MOUNTAIN LION (cougar) roaming north east Ohio…yes north east Ohio and Jeff talks a bit about the characteristics, activities, and habits of this animal and some safety precautions. Dr. Jennifer Jellison is back with us to speak about a different angle on the “moist” weather we’ve had and the rabid insect population that is exploding! What she is seeing in her practice and how to combat the insects. Dick Rolfe, CEO of the Dove Foundation continues the discussion on movies released this summer. Alabama has seen an increase in snake bites due to the drought and the migration of animals and reptiles to find water. Pets are dying in hot cars AGAIN….ARE YOU KIDDING ME – Jeff goes on a rant….
