My Buddy Butch Show 12-17-2011

This week – Hour 1 – Mark Clement is the Senior VP of Sales and Marketing for Gamma2. Now you may know Gamma2 by another name “Vittles Vault” and they have been around for awhile and are available …literally everywhere. These specially designed environmentally tight containers and systems are made to keep your pet’s food fresh and mold free for much longer than just rolling the bag down. Ever eat potato chips that have been exposed to the air for a day or two? Flat stale chips is what you get…well your pet’s dry cat or dog food is no different from those chips, they absorb as much moisture as they can at every opportunity. Jos Zamzow is the founder of Dynamite Specialty products and he joins Jeff to talk about a problem he had when looking for wholesome treats to give his pets. The difficulty was finding treats that did not have chemicals in them with names too long to pronounce! Jos took on the challenge of making treats that HE knew would be healthy for animals and has come up with many products for just about any pet you can think of. Canine Cookies are the latest creation and he sleeps better knowing the natural ingredients he is using while making a good treat for his pets. News and announcements – Jeff rants about the new cell phone ban that the National Transportation and Safety Board is asking for and he salutes a couple of companies that are doing great things for rescues organizations in Kansas and San Francisco!

Hour 2 – Kyla Duffy is the founder of Happy Tails Books and has been a friend of the My Buddy Butch Show for a long time. The books that she and the other authors that have banded together to write are benefiting homeless animals and rescue shelters around the country. Kyla also started upforpups.org and the exciting show “Don’t Kill Bill.” Happy Tails Books has now introduced a great line of children’s books that are sure to be a big hit and make great gifts! alaskastatetrblog This week – Hour 1 – National Geographic’s award winning series Alaska State Troopers is now in it’s third season. Dan Stern, writer and executive producer of the series joins Jeff to talk about what it is like spending a whole year in Alaska to film the series and some of the things that they had to deal with. Personally, Jeff doesn’t know if he could handle the “midnight sun” in Alaska in the summer time! They also talk about some of the upcoming episodes. Dr. Shelly Rubin is past president of the American Heartworm Society and used to be Oprah’s choice for a veterinarian before she moved to California to run her network. He stops by to talk a bit about flea, tick, heartworm preventatives and remedies. After a recent tv news report by Cleveland’s ABC affiliate, that over-the-counter remedies have caused serious illness and death to some pets, Jeff wants to dig into this possibility with Dr. Rubin.
Hour 2
Vickie Fisher is the President of The International Cat Association and she joins Jeff to talk about their involvement in the “Meet The Breeds” show at the Javits Center in New York City in November. This is a great function for the whole family because there are not only cats but the AKC is also involved and so there are many breeds of dogs exhibited also! Dogs and Cats under the same roof is sure to be and exciting time and Vickie tell us about it! Big Cat Week Starts on December 11th on Nat Geo Wild. Do you know what the 8 largest cats on the planet are and which ones are already extinct? Animal Poison Control Center

This week – Hour 1 – The ASPCA has a great web site not only for their Animal Poison Control Center that can help pet owners in an emergency 24/7, 365 days each year but also for holiday do’s and dont’s with your pet. Jeff goes down the checklist that all pet owners should be aware of and reminds everyone of the potential hazards. Dr. Frank McMillin is the Director of Wellness for Best Friends Animal Sanctuary in KANAB, Utah. Best Friends was the rescue featured in National Geographic’s “Dog Town” Show. Dr. Frank joins Jeff for the rescue of the week segment to talk about the mental damage that the puppy mills put the dogs through that produce the puppy’s we see in chain pet stores. With the amount of dogs, cats and other animals in many over crowded shelters around the country, Jeff reminds us that these places, and breed rescues are the places to get that new furry family member.

Hour 2 – Best Selling author are life coach Jackie Lapin joins Jeff to talk about her new book ”Practical Conscious Creation” which debuted as a #1 hot seller on Amazon.com. Ever want to improve your life..well who doesn’t. Improving your relationships, improving your daily life, improving your finances and feeling happier are all well within your reach and Jackie tells Jeff how! There are an increasing number of people that are including their pets in their last will. There are also those who worry about their pets when they are away from them for any reason. Rachel Hirschfeld an attorney and partner of LegalZoom.com joins Jeff to talk about how to do this properly and what the difference is between a pet trust and a “pet protection agreement” that she developed. This week – Hour 1 – Have you seen the movie “Secretariat” yet. Well this Disney movie naturally documents what many call the greatest race horse of all time. However, would he have been as great if he did not have an arch rival pushing him? “Sham – Great Was Second Best” is a book by Phil Dandrea and Phil joins Jeff this week to talk about the research he did on this other great horse that many have overlooked over the years. Also, Dr. Shelly Rubin stops by for the Vet Topic of the week. Seeing all the dogs in close proximity at the National Dog show, Jeff questions what precautions are needed to make sure disease does not spread between dogs. Pet owners taking pets to training or boarding need to know about this. Dr. Rubin also talks more about the research going into a possible resistant strain of heartworm. Now this is only research, and some of the things that they are looking into include pets that have tested positive even though they have been given preventative medication. Was it administered properly by the owners or is this a new type that we should be aware of? Also news and announcements…Butch Loves Chicken jerky but now there has been a problem reported with jerky imported from….guess where…

Hour 2 – It’s catch up time! Jeff spends time after falling way behind on emails, products and interviews! The National Dog Show Presented by Purina was this past week on Thanksgiving day. Jeff attended the event and has a few interviews and had a quick chat with Mary Carillo, David Frei, and John O’Hurley who was actually opening on Broadway in the show “Chicago.” This (and any pets show) is always a great event for the whole family and being the 10 year anniversary it did not disappoint. You will also meet a 10 year old brand new junior handler and hear how she got involved with showing dogs. RECALLS – Do you have any idea how many recalls there have been in the last 4 years? About 80 Cat food brands, about 120 Dog food brands, 9 horse food brands and even a reptile food… Well Jeff goes on a rant about it! He bets that a brand of something that you give to your pet has been involved. Learn how to find ALL the brands that have been recalled. Also, Family Movie update from the Hallmark Channel and Dove Foundation for the upcoming holidays. News and announcements.

Pamela relays to women in this book the research that she has done on both of these fantastic women on the timeless lessons on Love, Power and Style that they both possessed. Compare and contrast their style and you can see which one you most closely take after…you may be surprised! Bet you can’t tell what kind of pets they had…Pamela talks all about it! Also, some highlights from the National Dog Show Presented by Purina Press conference with David Frei, Mary Carrillo, and John O’Hurley who are getting ready for this year’s even on Thanksgiving Day…and of course a few News stories…did you know that it is also National Model Railroad Month!

Hour 2 – Debrah Larocque of THREEDOGZLLC.com talks with Jeff about her on-line store which sells unique pet products and being this time of year, everyone is looking for gifts and fun items to purchase. She talks abit about how she got started and some of the new items that she is introducing. Dr. Kim Bloomer stops by for the Vet segment of the week to talk in more detail about the recent national news stories about Salmonella. Oddly enough it’s not your pets that they are worried about it is PEOPLE and how it can transfer to you and your children. With all of the cooking going on this time of year it pays to be extra careful and keep everything clean including your pets bowls EVERY TIME YOU FEED THEM.
